Red Wolf
Our zoo has a pair of Red Wolves and this year they had a litter of three. We saw one of the nearly full grown pups (18 weeks) peeking out of the den. I'm partial to Red Wolves, there used to be some at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham NC that I used to visit with my kindergarten class, and then before we moved away from NC I took the children on a Red Wolf Howl. It was held at Alligator National Wildlife Refuge, we arrived after dark and drove aways, then parked and then hiked with the park ranger. When we were "close enough" to one of their known haunts the ranger howled and we listened as a Red Wolf answered. Red Wolves are on the endangered list and this pair is part of the species survival plan. The wolves we got to hear howl in NC are part of their reintroduction into the wild.
