Headed to Red Square

K enjoyed his first ride on the metro and marveled at the length of the escalators.

Sunday Morning Brunch

revealed a double yolk egg, the children were eggcited!

Sunset

We successfully kept K awake until 8 pm before we let him head to bed, hopefully to allow him an easy as possible time with jet lag.

Benches

While we were at IKEA we got two boot benches.  Benches for our front hall so we can sit while we put our boots on.  They have cubbies inside them for our slippers, too!

Auchan

After IKEA we went through the mall to the grocery store.  We detoured into the food court long enough for a couple slices of Sbarro pizza, mmm.  Auchan is a large grocery chain in Russia.  They have more than groceries, sort of like a Super Walmart or a Super Target.  The selection and prices were better than my small grocery store.  However, it was VERY chaotic.  Again, not a place I would recommend visiting on a Saturday afternoon.  There is a smaller Auchan closer to our apartment that I think I will check out on a weekday morning. . .The mall/grocery store had a parking garage with more than one level so they had a grocery cart friendly escalator to get there.

IKEA

Since we had the driver and were already near IKEA we stopped to pick up a few more things, things we hadn't thought about on our first trip.  I would not recommend visiting Moscow's IKEA on a Saturday afternoon.

Sheremetyevo Airport

K arrives!

Saturday Morning, March 2, 2013 the driver picked R and I up in order to head to the airport.  We arrived before the plane touched down.  K had met a couple of people on the plane, one a young man flying to Russia from Hawaii to visit a friend and the other a Russian returning home.  The young man from Hawaii knew the Russian alphabet and helped K learn it.  The Russian, who spoke English, helped both K and the young man with some words and phrases.  K had no trouble getting through passport control, getting his luggage and getting through customs.  We were thrilled his first international flight went so smoothly!  The toughest part was probably his tight connection in JFK.
