Trinity College

After their round of golf the gents joined us, and we met friends' of the Ms for a quick bite to eat.  Then we walked over to Trinity College.  Its full name is College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth near Dublin was founded in 1592 and is Ireland's oldest university.

Our main reason for visiting was to see The Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript of the four gospels created around AD 800.  It gets its name from Abbey of Kells, its home for centuries.

As we left the Book of Kells display we headed upstairs to the Long Room.  The Long Room which was built between 1712 - 1732, is 213 feet long and houses 200,000 of the libraries oldest books.  The Jedi archives bears a remarkable resemblance to the Long Room...

Also housed in the Long Room is Brian Boru's Harp.  It dates from the 14th or 15th century and is one of the three oldest surviving Gaelic harps.  It is a model for the Coat of Arms of Ireland.  It is rumored to once have belonged to Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland.

Although the Book of Kells drew us here, my favorite was the Long Room, I love libraries, especially old libraries.  And this one smelled just like an old, favorite book.
