The park also had quite a collection of these pinkish quartzite(quarried near Sioux Falls SD) border markers. 720 of them once marked the ND SD border, every half mile from Minnesota to Montana. Between 1891 and 1892 they were sunk halfway in the ground using human and horse labor. They are marked ND on one side, SD on the other side for the states and there is a mile marker on the east side so you would see it walking west. |
