The Waterfront and Akershus Castle and Fortress

A memorial to the MS Scandinavian Star which burned in 1990 killing 159 souls.

After leaving the Folkemuseum we caught a tram and headed toward the waterfront, intent on seeeing the Akershus Castle and Fortress.  The construction on Akershus Castle and Fortress began in the late 1290's.  In addition to serving as a castle and fortress, it has served as a prison and Royal Mausoleum.  It currently houses the Armed Forces Museum and the Norway Resistance Museum along with hosting official events.  We imagine that the view of the harbor and the city from the fortress are beautiful, but we were there after dark and it was snowing heavily as well.
