Happy Defender of the Fatherland Day!

Created in 1919 and originally known as Red Army Day, in 1949 it was renamed Soviet Army and Navy Day and given its current name in 2002 by President Putin.  Officially it is to celebrate men and women serving or having served in the Russian Armed services, military and civilian.  Unofficially it serves to celebrate men as a whole and as a counterpart to International Women's Day.
