The Metro stations are beautiful, designed during Soviet times as Palaces for the People, often times with valuable materials such as marble and chandeliers.  However, the other side of the story is that many of the metros were built by Gulag prisoners using materials from Cathedrals that were destroyed.

In the Revolution Square Metro Station there are several soldiers with their canine companions. Somehow, it has become good luck to rub the dog's nose as you walk by.  The brass nose of the dog is rubbed to a shine.  It is a bit difficult to get a picture as everyone really does rub the nose as they walk by.
