R worked from home
on Monday, our road was not plowed until sometime after supper and 29 was closed most of the day from Sioux Falls to the ND border.
Happy 4th Birthday C!
Can you tell Lightning McQueen spun off the road into a pile of mud and 'Mater had to come to the rescue?
Since we were snowed in
and couldn't make it to church, we made Sunday a snuggly pajama day! Complete with erector set building.
Although we were under a blizzard warning,
our winds never quite got that high here, although they did in many other places. The storm started with thunder and ice around 4 am. The entire NE corner of the house was coated with ice, as were the trees, power lines, outdoor furniture and the snow, creating a crust that will hold me up!

It Must be Calving Season
Alternate Title: You know you live in a rural area when. . .Roger and the big boys went to the nearest one. They said it was kind of a guys event, not many women present, evidently they all go shopping and out for (a more typical)dinner. Roger and the boys thought they tasted and looked much like fried clams. It was on K's "bucket list" and benefited the volunteer fire station, win - win!
Full Snow Moon
because February is often the month with the heaviest snowfall. Sometimes called the Full Hunger Moon because the deep snow made it difficult to hunt and the people were hungry.
I'm not sure what they smelled
but, the dogs were convinced something else was enjoying the warm weather and moving about under the snow.
Baking Cookies
I returned to the kitchen from the laundry room to find C gathering ingredients to make cookies, he had even found a "little map", a recipe card.
A Couple of Warm Days
Well, warm for February in SD. And we made good use of them, drawing with chalk on the bare sidewalk, shoveling the patio, fixing the snow woman and of course sunbathing. I have to remind the children (and myself) that winter is not over and surely we will have more cold temperatures and probably more snow, but the brief reprieve gives us all the gumption to finish winter!
The older children got shoes, found a group, located a lane, entered their info and bowled a couple of games with their friends. I tried to get a few photos of each in between helping set up the snacks, eating snacks, "mailing" the cards, chatting with the other moms and monitoring the preschool lane : )
