Hippodrome or Sultan Ahmet Square

The Walled Obelisk was once covered with gilded bronze plaques that were sacked during the Fourth Crusade.

Serpentine Column, once known as the Tripod of Plataea, which was cast in the 5th century BC to celebrate the victory of the Greeks over the Persians was moved from the Apollo at Delphi by order of Constantine.

In 390 Theodosius the Great had this obelisk cut in three pieces and moved form the Temple of Karnak in Luxor to the Hippodrome, it was erected by Thutmose III in 1490 BC

The German Fountain was built in Germany, shipped piece by piece and assembled in 1900 to commemorate the 2nd anniversary visit of German Emperor Wilhelm II's visit to Istanbul.

There were carts all over the city selling roasted corn and chestnuts, they smelled wonderful but didn't taste as good.
The hippodrome was the sporting and social center of Constantinople, horse racing and chariot racing were popular pastimes in ancient Greek cities of the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine era.  When the Ottoman Turks captured the city in 1453 and made it the capitol of the Ottoman Empire they had little interest in racing and the area was abandoned, but the area was never built up.
