April 28th at Park Pobedy ~ Victory Park

My friend T and I arrived home from Prague on Sunday night, I made a trip to Metro (like Sam's Club) and IKEA on Monday and we fly to Ireland on Wednesday.  I did not have time for this AWO (American Women's Organization) Photo Walk but I made time.  Victory Day is greatly celebrated here in Russia on May 9th.  And this year promised to be over the top as it is the 70th Anniversary of the surrender of the German forces.  Yes, I know that VE Day is widely celebrated on May 8th in other parts of the world.  The German forces signed the terms of the capitulation in Reims  to the Allied forces May 7, effective May 8th.  However, Stalin was not satisfied with this and there was a second ceremony in the outskirts of Berlin on May 8th when it was already May 9th in Moscow, due to time zone differences.  World War II is known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia.  Very little is said about the other Allied forces in the defeat of Germany.  Nearly every Russian family lost someone in the war.  Patriotism, time, censorship, rewriting of history or some combination of these things seems to blur some of the history though...And current events and ideology seem to have not learned any lessons from the past.
