July 9, 1932 started out as a typical summer day, in the afternoon it began to rain and then baseball size hail began to fall. At 6:30 pm a tornado struck killing two people and injuring 10 leaving everything in its path destroyed. The bridge over the Big Sioux River southwest of Sioux Falls was lifted completely off the ground and this steel girder pierced a tree. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by the rash of tornadoes this spring. We used this display and the wild weather as a reminder to check our emergency plans and kits.
