Happy Defenders of the Fatherland Day



to our Russian friends!  My understanding of the holiday, which is celebrated on February 23rd, is it was somewhat akin to our Veteran's Day.  However, since it falls a couple of weeks prior to International Women's Day, which is much celebrated, it has become more of a Men's Day, celebrating all men and not just those who served in the military.  There were goodies to eat at R's office, he had his picture made in a cardboard cutout of a military uniform and there were gifts!  One of the gifts was a package similar to an American MRE, the children had great fun opening it and sampling all the items.  There was a beautiful boomerang also, that I didn't get a picture of.  R admits, as a child of the 70's and 80's, it was relatively difficult to have his picture made in the Russian military uniform. . .
