This statue depicts a Soviet worker handing a newly forged sword to a Soviet soldier. I have read that Magnitogorsk supplied the steel to fashion half of the Soviet tanks during WWII and one third of the shells. I have read that Magnitogorsk is one of the most polluted cities in the world and the inhabitants die young and the babies are born ill. But, we were there on a beautiful, sunny, cold, clear day and we were welcomed.
