Even when the sun finally rose it was too foggy to see much, this is the view form my kitchen window.

The view from the sidewalk after exiting the metro.

I do not think this was a mother child pair as their was an adult sized animal supervising, I think these were siblings, and the older one was feeding the younger one!

The otter enjoyed showing off for us, but he was fast too fast for me!

We have often wondered if the ducks we see on the ponds migrate or just find open water in the city.  After seeing the waterfowl at the zoo today, I think it is safe to assume they all come to the zoo for the winter!

Snowy Owl

The buildings in the background are the Planetarium.

Can you see the cat atop the bale of hay?  This was the inside home of the African Mammals.

Many of the animals had New Years Trees in their pens for fodder or enrichment.

Przewalski's Horse

Many of the animals are used to being fed by zoo visitors despite signs to the contrary.  This fellow was trying to get a bite of our popcorn.

In the background you can see the International Business Center.

The building to center left of the photo is known as The White House, a government building.

This sculpture known as a Tree of Fairy Tales by Zurab Tsereteli is fascinating to look at, but seems out of place to me.

Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!

The Moscow Zoo is  celebrating 150 years, this year.

The whole day was foggy and unseasonably warm.  R was still off work so we decided to take advantage of the weather and head to the zoo.  While some animals were off exhibit and some were in their winter quarters there were plenty that were active and fun to watch.
