Gate of Spalen or Spalentor

This facade facing away from the city is decorated with three figures, the Madonna flanked by two prophets and dates from the 15th century.

The Spalentor is the most impressive of the three remaining gates of the old walled city, which date from the 1400's.  This gate is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Switzerland and is also a heritage site of national significance.
